Let's take a look back over the year 2010 and the not so top stories outside the playing field. I recently wrote an article referencing all the negative attention that different professional and college athletes and schools were getting and how I thought that we tend to focus on what's happening off the field instead of what is actually taking place on it. Are the Stories Outside of the Game Bigger Than the Games
So what are some of the Top Stories Outside the Games 2010. I know there are a number of athletes and stories or controversies that will deserve to be mentioned and some will be tops to you and not me. I think the most notable ones that deserve mentioning are:
LeBron James
I still think his handling of how he chose to leave Cleveland is one of the biggest stories of the year and most definitely one that goes without controversy. From his poor choice of timing to deliver his pick of the Miami Heat to his stand up dances and the way he pranced around with Dewayne Wade and Chis Bosh. I can't believe that the latter two fell into his trap, but also can't help but think that they were as much of the controversy in the latter stages as he was in the beginning. Now look at them, granted LeBron did smash the Cavaliers upon his return to his former arena, they have been struggling to win games and look like the team that was meant to be.
Tiger Woods
Though mistresses are still chasing his putter he appears to not be letting it outta the bag but has tried his hand at becoming a twitter whore. If it wasn't enough that we heard for months how Tiger did this and Tiger did that we had to watch him make an attempt at a less than successful but stellar comeback. This has to be one story that tugs and pulls at me. Oh how I wish I had the mans money, he can keep the fame. How I wish I could putt like him and swing driver like his ex-wife. I have compassion for him believe it or not. I don't envy his many women or his adulterous behavior and definitely don't condone it. I do however hope that he continues to make a successful comeback and has a successful 2011.
Ben Roethlisberger
Another stellar who seems to have difficulty keeping his wang in the pocket. Big Ben as he's known throughout the NFL was cited for allegations of sexual misconduct inside a Georgia night club. Apparently a 20-year-old student told an officer that Roethlisberger sexually assaulted her inside a bathroom in the club. Although no criminal charges were filed he did serve a suspension by the NFL for six games that turned out to only be four. Questions remain unanswered in this as Big Ben has been in the spotlight from a previous as Roethlisberger faces a lawsuit filed last July by a woman who says he raped her in 2008 at a Lake Tahoe hotel and casino, an allegation he strongly denies. So are these women out for fame and fortune or are these guys such as Roethlisberger immune to prosecution? Tiger did admit that he was getting down with others and apparently is taking responsibility for his actions. I hope we never hear of it or see it, but if Big Ben has a problem with how he treats women then we haven't heard the last of his clubbing yet.
So what are some of the biggest stories that you can recall? And please add a comment if you have anything to say good, bad or indifferent. We appreciate your comments.
