NFL Football in the Summer Months

Thanks Pat Cameron for the guest post

The National Football League should start earlier in my opinion. Having to wait from February to August is painful for a diehard football fan. All joking aside, I understand why the season starts when it does and am completely in agreement with the NFL schedule makers. That being said, it doesn’t lessen my need for flipping on my direct tv nfl Sunday ticket and having an NFL game being played. There has been talk lately around the league about changing the structure of the season from four preseason games and sixteen regular season games, to having two preseason games and eighteen regular season games. Having more meaningful games is fine with me, but I wonder how it will change the face of the league. Preseason games are fun and slightly tide over your football hunger until the regular season begins, but I understand players and coaches don’t want unnecessary injuries in meaningless games.

More regular season games in the NFL should also separate the teams in the playoff race at the end of the year as well, making it more clear which teams deserve to be in the playoffs and which ones do not. A longer season would also allow the teams to increase the money they bring in as well due to the fact that ticket buyers would much rather go to a regular season game rather than a preseason one.
