Ready to Get Beaned?

When most of the talk today is on the huge contract the Nats offered Stephen Strasburg, a record one at that, I think most of the action in the sport lately has been overlooked and the least committed about. And that is the beannings that have went on lately. Mets outfielder D. Wright was released from the hospital today one day after being hit by a 94 mph fastball. He lay on the ground at home plate for more than a minute, motionless.

It has been an all to common occurrence lately with the pitchers who have unintentionally hit or intentionally retaliated after one of their own has been beaned. If you think that baseball is a non-contact sport, watch the highlights of some these hits to the head, back , side and hands lately. Ever tried to get outta the way of something coming at your head at 90+ miles an hour. No Sirree Thank You Very Much, and I don't think I want to either! Over the years some players have taken on some mighty hard pitches that have resulted in more than concussions. Fractured skulls, broken cheekbones, blurred vision and even death has occurred after being hit. Come on fellas , is it that serious? Apparently it is, "more than just a game! "
